The Pirates can beat the Cardinals in the National League Division Series.

I didn't believe that in 2013, but I do now.

What's more, if the Pirates beat the Cubs in the wild card game, then beat the Cardinals, they instantly become odds-on favorites to win their sixth World Series championship.

Better now?

No?

OK, I didn't think it would work. Not with all that was wrought Wednesday night with St. Louis crushing the home team, 11-1, climbing to a 100th victory, claiming the Central crown and, yes, celebrating right here at PNC Park in front of the hardy souls that lingered from the original paid crowd of 34,729.

As if to rub it in, though not really.
