When the Penguins released their Pittsburgh Gold third jerseys a couple years back, it was only a matter of time until they became the primary uniform for the now four-time Stanley Cup champions.

Fast forward to Pitt's homecoming against Georgia Tech on Saturday and its use of Dan Marino-era, championship-era throwback uniforms, and this photographer can only hope that the Panthers follow the Penguins' lead.

Pitt did just re-brand for 2016, including the return of the script logo, but the color scheme remains the Vegas Gold and Navy Blue of the modern era. I'm thinking it's borderline impossible for Pitt to quickly make the additional turn to the throwback colors, but it's something they should absolutely consider. The color is popular with students, it looks great in photos, and it's a return to a tradition of winning and excellence for Pitt football.
