Playing travel league basketball in Missouri, Michael Hughes's Kansas City Pacers squad came face to face with that of Mike Lewis II's Gateway Basketball Club. Lewis' team won by one, but Hughes, who will transfer from Akron to Duquesne and become Lewis' teammate, doesn't hold any grudges.

Hughes didn't directly guard Lewis on most occasions. The 6-foot-9, 265-pound versatile center roamed the paint and tried to keep Lewis out of it. It was more difficult than it sounds to defend a 6-1 slasher like Lewis, though.

"I like the most how he can go from a scoring machine one night to a passing point guard," Hughes said of Lewis. "It makes it hard for teams to get a good scout on him."

Now, the two will become teammates at Duquesne as Hughes announced his intent to join Lewis and Keith Dambrot on the Bluff to help solidify depth in the post. Hughes will sit out next season and have three years of eligibility remaining.
