UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Ayron Monroe aimed to change his hair color from gold to blue, but instead the Nittany Lion safety ended up with a shade of green.
He’s fine with it.
“When I graduated high school I dyed it brown and it just kind of grew out and I didn’t like the brown tips and didn’t want to go back to black,” the redshirt sophomore said. “I tried blue but with the gold undertones it looked green.”
Fresh hair-do aside, this camp, Monroe is out to prove he’s not the same safety he was one year ago. At the time he was coming off a shoulder injury that he said caused him to miss significant time during the previous season and offseason so while the starting job opposite Marcus Allen is up for grabs this time around, he looks to continue the position battle with Troy Apke and Nick Scott.
By the sound of James Franklin’s comment during Saturday’s news conference Apke could be the guy in the lead, but the Lions have plans for Monroe regardless of how this shakes out.
