UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – It’s not officially Akron week just yet, but the Nittany Lions are done with camp and shifted the focus to their Sept. 2 season opener.

“What you saw today is probably a good indicator of what our depth chart would look like,” James Franklin said following Wednesday’s workout. “We won’t officially make those decisions until next week, but we’re close.”

As Penn State wrapped up Wednesday night’s light workout, something Franklin wanted to do after a heavy workout on Tuesday, some of the team’s position battles are coming to a close. While the Week 1 depth chart will put some of them to rest – at least for a week – Franklin did shed light on who impressed him this camp and within the context of those answers there are a few breakout candidates who stood out to the head coach during the past 24 days.

SAQUON's HANDS

Expect running back Saquon Barkley to catch more passes out of the backfield than the 28 he had last season. He's been a regular on the JUGS machine before practice along with the rest of the receivers, Gattis said.
