UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Tommy Stevens walked into Penn State's first day of game planning for the season opener and the backup quarterback found out he'd have a bit of a different role this season.
"I didn't actually learn I guess the position I was going to be playing until we game planned it for Week 1, honestly," Stevens said following the Lions' 56-0 win against Georgia State. "There was never a meeting or like anything where I sat down and they were like, 'Hey, you're going to line up in the backfield and you're going to catch passes.' We never had that conversation so Week 1 came around, it was something that we thought we'd mess around with and pick back up from last year."

"I thought he was going to have a chance to try and catch the ball and when I saw him go up and get it he was happy," Stevens said.
