Penn State, Michigan State resume after lengthy delay

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Penn State wrapped up a weather delay that began at 1:15 p.m. and ended at 4:36 p.m.

There will not be a halftime show, but it's still to be determined whether or not there will be an actual halftime.

This is the first known in-game weather delay for Penn State and how James Franklin's team passes the time remains to be seen. When the game resumes at Spartan Stadium there will be 7:38 remaining in the second quarter, a game the Lions lead 14-7. Keep in mind the first quarter took nearly an hour.

Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley came back from an opening-drive interception to have a sharp first quarter, completing 11-of-18 passes for 171 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Lions scored on a 31-yard touchdown reception by DaeSean Hamilton and on a 27-yard touchdown catch from Saeed Blacknall.

Penn State's defense used tackle Kevin Givens at defensive end, a move that was projected earlier in the week after starter Ryan Buchholz was injured in the game against Ohio State. Buchholz, along with starting left tackle Ryan Bates, did not make the trip. Will Fries started at left tackle as the Lions went with the same offensive line that ended the game against the Buckeyes.

The story of the game so far has been the explosive plays. Penn State had six receptions of 15-plus yards in the game so far, all of which came in the first quarter. However, the Lions' secondary continues to be gouged for big yards, surrendering completions of 20, 18, 17, 21 and 25 yards so far. Neither team has a rush of 12-plus yards thus far.

So how has yours truly spent the first half of the delay? Well, I waited behind Le'Veon Bell at the hot chocolate machine -- yep, he's here during his bye week and in a suite -- watched a lot of rain drops, walked around the press box at least four times and watched more rain.
