STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Philadelphia area was home to the late Roy Halladay for four seasons . Soon, Happy Valley will be home to the pitcher's son, Braden, who announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Saturday.

Braden is a right-handed pitcher at Calvary Christian High School in Bradenton, Fla., the place where his father, a two-time Cy Young winner, used to be a volunteer pitching coach. Braden, a verbal pledge for Penn State baseball's 2019 class, made his announcement a little more than one month after his father was tragically killed in a plane crash.
Photos of father and son fill Braden's Twitter and Instagram accounts and certainly many extra sets of eyes will be on him at Penn State, not only because of his successful father, but also because of how Phillies fans, many who are also Penn Staters, fondly recall the pitching icon. Halladay's no-hitter in the 2010 NLDS won't soon be forgotten.
Braden, a 6-3, 150-pound junior, is the older of Halladay's two sons. He also was reportedly interested in TCU. The Halladay family resides in Odessa, Fla.
