In the days following Penn State's Fiesta Bowl win, Saquon Barkley went from a college football star to the latest signee by Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports agency.
Barkley, who traveled from Arizona to Pasadena, Cal. for the Rose Bowl on Sunday after making his intentions public to declare for the NFL Draft, announced his signing with Roc Nation Wednesday afternoon, making him one of the select signees by Jay Z's agency. He joins an elite crop of running backs with Roc Nation, including Leonard Fournette, Todd Gurley and C.J. Prosise. Barkley will be represented by Kim Miale.
"A lot of people came around my way, but they were focused on me and they did a great job at selling my family on setting me up for life, bringing value outside of football," Barkley told ESPN. "I felt like it was harder for other agencies to pitch that family feel when they were working with 30 or 40 guys."
Roc Nation also represents Dez Bryant and Kevin Durant, among others. Barkley likely came to joining Roc Nation while out in California this past weekend where he appeared on ESPN's College GameDay explaining his decision to forgo his senior season and enter the draft. Barkley is widely considered to be a top-10 selection and said he will train for the NFL Combine in Orlando.
Interestingly enough, Roc Nation also represents one NFL head coach, Hue Jackson of the Cleveland Browns. Jackson signed with Roc Nation in July. The Browns own the first and fourth overall selections in this year's NFL Draft.
