Todd Haley, not retained by the Steelers after the team's 45-42 loss to the Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Playoff game, didn't have to wait long or travel far for his next job.
The NFL Network reported Monday that Haley has accepted an offer from Cleveland's Hue Jackson to be the offensive coordinator of the Browns, taking over the play-calling duties from Jackson.
Haley worked as offensive coordinator for the Steelers for the past six seasons, guiding the team to top 10 finishes in both scoring and yardage in each of the past four seasons, the longest such stretch in Pittsburgh since the late 1970s. But he was not retained at the conclusion of this season because of personality conflicts with Ben Roethlisberger.
Now, Haley will likely get a chance to hand-pick the next quarterback with whom he works. Cleveland, which has won just one game in the past two seasons, has the first overall pick in this year's draft in addition to owning the fourth-overall pick, thanks to a trade with Houston.
Haley was replaced as Steelers offensive coordinator by quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner.
Haley's hiring came on the same day another former Steelers coordinator, Dick LeBeau, was let go by the Titans. LeBeau, 80, had been working as Tennessee's defensive coordinator the past three seasons but was not retained by new head coach Mike Vrabel.
