BRADENTON, Fla. -- Bryce Brentz, the 2017 Class AAA home run king in the Pirates' camp, is off to New York.
Brentz was claimed off outright waivers by the Mets, though that team didn't immediately disclose whether he'll report to the parent club or the minors. Regardless, that formally ends his time in the Pittsburgh system, a month after he'd been acquired from the Red Sox.
With Boston's Class AAA Pawtucket affiliate last season, Brentz batted .271/.334/.529 with 31 home runs and 85 RBIs, but he has only 36 games in the majors, none since 2016.
