Steelers, Ridley agree on deal to bolster running back depth taken at Rooney Sports Complex (Steelers)

After a brief stay with the Steelers last December in which he looked as if he still had some pep in his step, veteran running back Stevan Ridley went back on the free agent market in March.

Tuesday night, Ridley and the Steelers agreed to resume their relationship. According to ESPN, Ridley and the Steelers agreed to a one-year deal to bring the 29-year-old back for the 2018 season, bolstering the team's depth at the position.

Ridley spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with New England, rushing for over 1,200 yards in 2012. But he fell out of favor with Bill Belichick because of fumbling issues and had played sparingly in 2015 and 2016 for the Jets and Atlanta.

The Steelers signed him late last season when rookie James Conner was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury and Ridley responded by rushing for 108 yards on 26 carries in the team's final two games. He did not get a carry in the team's season-ending playoff loss to Jacksonville.

Ridley and Conner will help provide depth behind All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell, on whom the team placed the franchise tag for the second year in a row. The Steelers also re-signed veteran backup Fitzgerald Toussaint last month to a one-year deal.
