Teddy Blueger has been named to Latvia's roster for the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark.
Blueger was in Pittsburgh as a Black Ace during the big club's playoff run. He left for Denmark following the Penguins' elimination, and arrived in Herning last night.
Blueger played his first game of the tournament earlier today. He recorded one assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the United States. Blueger carried the puck behind the net and passed it to an open Uvis Balinskis for the primary assist:
This is Blueger's second World Championship appearance for his native Latvia. He represented Latvia last spring following Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's elimination from the playoffs, and scored one goal in seven games.
Blueger, 23, was one of Wilkes-Barre's strongest forwards this season. His 45 points ranked third in team scoring, and his 21 goals were second on the team. He led the AHL in overtime goals, with four.
Blueger is the second Penguins prospect to be named to a World Championship roster this spring. Forward Freddie Tiffels joined Germany's roster after the Wheeling Nailers failed to qualify for the playoffs. Like Blueger, this is Tiffels' second World Championship appearance.
