What’s Brewing 7.15.18

The rising Point Park University playhouse on Forbes, Downtown. - DEJAN KOVACEVIC / DKPS

Good morning!

Lance Lysowski is headed to the All-Star Game!

Yeah, he’d be our selection, too, especially after maintaining consistently high traffic on his seven-hour live file from that doubleheader yesterday — seriously, 10.4 percent of our site’s total traffic for  the day — but in general for his overall effort  in covering the Pirates all season, one that’s been really well received by our readers.

He’ll be in Washington beginning Monday for the mass All-Star availability, then the Home Run Derby, then, of course, the main event Tuesday night in which Felipe Vazquez will pitch in his old digs. Looking forward to everything he’s got to share. Oh, and before that, he’ll be part of the panel on WPXI-TV’s ‘Subway Final Word,’ tonight at 11:35 p.m.

• Hey, you can now watch ‘Final Word’ live right here on the site! Just open the file, and there’s a live stream embedded.

Chris Bradford, Matt Sunday and I will be at PNC Park for today’s matinee, the last game before the break.

Jerry Wolper’s got Grind this morning, as well as a very special entry in our Who Wore It Best series on the Penguins’ entry.

• It’s the weekend, so it’s Site Stuff time, brought to you by Curtis Pharmacy, and we’ve got a good amount of new info there, not least of which is Dale Lolley inviting everyone to Kennywood this coming Thursday!

• Our Veterans Gift Subscriptions pool is at minus-3 after a Saturday in which three more were claimed by vets — one Army, one Marine, one from the Air Force with 20 years of service! — and one bought. If you’d like to contribute, that can happen right here. Overall, we’ve connected 109 military veterans with free subscriptions since restructuring the program in May. Anyone who’s served in our Armed Forces can request a subscription by filling out this form.

• Our advertising kit was updated this month. Give us a shout to see what we can do for your business!

Oh, the irony! A country with 4 million people, a national soccer infrastructure that should have a notice of condemnation slapped on it, leaking quality players, and only 5 FIFA quality soccer pitches can make the World Cup final, while a country with 80 times the poplulation, soccer pitches in practically every city, a mind numblingly complex national soccer infrastructure and an improving domestic league can’t even qualify. Oh, the shame! 🤔🤔😣😣😣😜😜

I’m pretty sure I make up most of RMU’s page views. It would be interesting to break down page views based on subscribers. I’d like to be able to look up my account and see how many page views I have in a particular category, that number compared to the total number of subscribers with page views in that category. How many comments posted in each category. Total number of up and down cups average per comment, nerdy numbers like that.
