Let’s Talk: Jalen Ramsey’s trashing everyone, Ben too ☕️

Welcome to our daily feature in which we put together a schedule of all the major sports we cover, plus headlines from other news around the sports world from a Pittsburgh perspective, plus a place to discuss anything you’d like down in the comments.

The onus is on you here. Keep it civil, but keep it lively.

Oh, and feel free to contribute your own links to stuff you find around the Web. The more information that’s here, the more vital the place will be.

What’s Ramsey doing in that magazine. I doubt if he can even spell GQ.

In that same article Ramsey says Ben is “decent at best” and “he really disappointed me.”

At rookie orientation, they really should tell these guys that likability goes hand in hand with the NFL’s popularity which goes hand in hand with their pay checks. Geeze

A couple of really talented young guys in Acuna in ATL and Soto in Washington coming up through the NL. They’re fun to watch right now.

Lol…I read the headline and thought, why is Winnipeg mad at Pryor? That’s how irrelevant the NY football Jets are

Michael S

Watching the Giants-Dodgers game and Puig loses it. I swear, Puig is an emotionally unbalanced dude. He just has to be so dramatic and animated about everything, and other teams really take offense.

You read about these young phenoms that are making a difference for their teams and you wish the Pirates had such a player.

International free agent signing, right?

The best we can come up with is Kang.

Marte and Polanco were supposed to be that type – they’ve been solid but not true impact players.

Good point music, however in the pirates system, he would falter because they would keep him in hickory until he was 22.

I saw that Bote walk-off grand slam and I just couldn’t believe it. Just the kind of thing that could really get the Cubs going.

I think he was a 12th round pick that made some swing adjustments in the minors – what a concept.

Koepka now has as many major wins as Jordan Spieth, whom many consider the best golfer of this generation. It seems the jury is still out on this one. I wish Koepka received as much fanfare for his achievements as Fowler does for showing up.

jmbell
jmbell

Koepka doesn’t do much for me. Guy is super non chalant, doesn’t even like golf, and he hardly plays. This is only his 4th tour win and 3 of them have been majors. Think he’ll fade away pretty quickly. Spieth is still better.

jason1937
jason1937

Are you Kidding?—The guy is an absolute BEAST. Those were 340 yard drives he was smoking down the middle of the fairway. And his irons and putter were great too. Two majors and golfer of the year doesn’t do it for you. The network really did an injustice to him in the last part of the PGA. Too much focus on the old man. I know this—I would bet the guy could kick some ass with those arms.

Neil Walker on fire lately and to get him in the lineup Yanks are having him make his first career outfield start today. Hope he does well.

That’s a big loss for the Dodgers given the tight race for the division. The only positive is neither AZ or CO are on fire at the moment.

Don’t get the need to require anything, regarding HOF induction. Seems like a needles rule to implement. Are we really in fanger of not getting a 30 minute speech from Ray Lewis? SIGN ME UP!

The little I watched of the ceremony, don’t recall thinking one time “man I miss TO not being there”.

Also didn’t watch his ceremony at UT- Chat, but that actually sounds like it could have been pretty cool too.

Well it’s probably the dog house for me tonight, Steelers then late night Bucs.

Why isn’t Larry Walker in the HOF?

Guido1960

He’s in the Coors Field HOF.

Michael S

Normally I have no issues with NFL players fighting for every dime given the lack of guaranteed contracts and short shelf life in NFL. But I have to draw the line when someone holds out and they are still playing under a signed contract. Not cool.

musicman
musicman

Aaron Donald asking for a lot or the Rams being cheap?

Dejan Kovacevic
Dejan Kovacevic

Well, AD’s got an active contract. This isn’t like Bell. He’s literally holding out.

musicman

A contract that he signed then he has no right to complain.

Dejan Kovacevic
Dejan Kovacevic

We will agree on this.

DJ
DJ

No right to complain?

If only the current state of pro sports were that simple.

Mavrik02
Mavrik02

In general I agree. If you get a player for a very cheap price and they turn out to be very, very good then I feel you need to do something mid contract to bump the salary. If you don’t you risk alienating that player and having them sour on the team. Others believe the player should suck it up and play out the contract and that’s a valid direction but I think the team has to look at all angles before they decide to take action or not.

However in this case AD is making almost $7M in base…it’s not like he’s making league minimum and he is doing himself more harm than good by holding out as he looses a season towards his unrestricted free agent status.

Guido1960
Guido1960

Yeah, TO put up numbers. But he routinely lead the league in dropped balls and destroyed locker rooms and morale in his wake. Greatest cancer. Ever. Don’t even want to talk about Lewis. Used to love the game. Now, it’s not even an afterthought. The league works OT to make itself unlikeable.

wisertime
wisertime

“TO put up numbers. But he routinely lead the league in dropped balls”

Not true. Though Owens did have his fair share of drops like most other great receivers who get the ball a lot, he only led the league in drops one time.

jrziskey

Hey, there was never anyone better than Lewis at being the last one on the pile to get credit for a tackle. 😳

Man are we lucky in Pittsburgh. LMAO @ both Cleveland and Carolina.

Michael S

MLB pitchers on average give up 3.27 BB/9 innings. Pirates at 3.31 (17th in MLB). Sure feels higher than that, doesn’t it? Cubs are 4.16, second worst in MLB, yet lead the division.

jrziskey
jrziskey

TO may be a clown but he’s absolutely right – if the HOF voters had no qualms about putting a previously accused murderer in on the first ballot, then there’s absolutely no reason he shouldn’t have been in on the first ballot as well.

Rainmanoly

Ah, the two wrongs make a right argument.

jrziskey
jrziskey

Nope, just highlighting the stupidity of the HOF selection process.

Michael S
Michael S

In reference to note about the about the A’s above, don’t look now but they are legitimate. They are kicking it in the standings and playing very good baseball. Don’t think they’ll overtake Astros but a WC is a definite possibility. They have steadily improved all season.

Dejan Kovacevic
Dejan Kovacevic

I’ve liked Oakland’s moves for a while now. They’d been all but discounted in the AL West. Not now.

jrziskey
jrziskey

I just looked at the standings yesterday and didn’t realize they were 21 games over .500 – wow!

Michael S

They have no money to work with, either 😉. Identification and development of talent; as you say, that’s where it’s at.

mike

I can sympathize with T.O. If it wasn’t for those stinking report cards they gave me in school, I would have had straight As.

jmbell
jmbell

Except that comparison doesn’t work because T.O. DID perform on the field and get “straight As”, but then the “report card makers” (aka hall of fame voters) didn’t grade him out as such. I’m not a big T.O. guy either, but the whole system is a farce and I’m glad he’s exposing it.

jrziskey

And yet Ray Lewis is good enough for the first ballot. 😳

Dejan Kovacevic

Totally serious question, and I’m just winging it when I ask, but is Gibson’s contract the biggest ever signed by a Pittsburgh native in any sport?

Jay Baileys

Saad got 6 million per year, JT Miller under 6, Bugsy never got near those numbers, and Niel Walker got the shaft by the BMTIB. Shouldn’t be, but you may be right.

Yeah but I’ll still probably watch. Those two are still more entertaining than any of the current players combined.

I don’t know Donnie. I enjoy watching Day – Speith – Thomas – Johnson – McIlroy – Fowler. I will take there entertainment over Woods and Mickelson any day of the week !!

It would make for a lot better tv if they both had to come up with the $10 million – this just smacks of a money grab.

iacas

Of course it is. They’re starting this business together.

Doesn’t mean it can’t be entertaining.

And bigdaddy, Tiger remains – by far – the biggest needle mover in the game.

jmbell

Screw Tiger and all his fan boys. He won’t win another major. Book it. DJ, Spieth, Fowler, JT, Koepka, etc. run the tour now. Tiger is nothing more than an afterthought at this point.

jason1937
jason1937

It is really BS the way that the networks follow Woods around when Koepka has won 2 majors this year and 3 in the last 2 years. Woods played very well but there are new kids in town now. He has not won in 10 years and the guys on golf channel were saying that he would be the favorite next spring at the Masters. Next wins for Tiger and Phil will be on the Senior tour. Koepka hits his drives 340 yards and straight as an arrow. Also there are other very talented players on tour now.

Think about Kapernick…. if he wasnt being a Doosh on the sideline he would be as big of a story as Bubby Brister being scrubbed from Madden. The dude is a Jabrone working the WWE Heel gimmick. 15 minutes is over. Fade away Kap or take it to the 24 hour cable places that cant get enuff of that BS.

Yeah BS Bubba. He didn’t do anything stupid, illegal or violent, he simply took a knee to protest killings of black men by the police. The NFL can do what it wants but there is no way the man deserved to be blackballed. I generally like your comments but this one sucks eggs.

By mid this upcoming season, do the penguins become sellers to boost their future? The key to success will be way better years for Crosby, letang and malkin then a year ago-can these 3 continue their strong era. Newcomers such as brassard and Johnson are super keys as well. Last but not least, Murray’s play this year will define if he has longevity or without the fleury presence for another year be done.

For buffalo, they will be strong for many years to come, the pens will be their whipping boys.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Carolina this year. The news articles you read and reports commenting on what the new owner is doing there raises questions. I wonder what culture Dundin is attempting to buck against. I mean, after the lockout and a salary cap in place, what is he trying to accomplish? The team didn’t seem to be made up of malcontents or prima donnas.

With Urban Meyer, you might win a couple of NCs in a 5-7 yr span, but eventually, the inmates will be running the asylum. At least that is what happened at UF. The Gators football program still hasn’t fully recovered from the mess he left. OSU has gotten good mileage out of Meyer. Can OSU avoid the same fate as UF?

Just heard a story last night from a fellow former Pittsburgher I play roller hockey with in Ft. Lauderdale. Apparently after Tebow’s Broncos lost to the Pats in the playoffs, he congratulated Brady and asked him to take care of his [UF] boy”. Brady shook his head and said “It’s too late. I can’t help you with that one”. I have no idea whether or not the story is true, but Belichick loved Urban’s former Gators.

I had impure thoughts in the 70’s. Can I meet with someone from MLB and can they hear my confession?

dfr221
dfr221

Goml: Fortunately for you, twitter wasn’t around in the 70s. Your “impure” thoughts, as you call them, were not recorded for people to read at some later date. While I agree with you that there are too many people out there that are too easily offended, these MLB players are genuinely embarrassed and are holding themselves accountable. I give them credit for not blaming anyone or using the “whataboutism” excuse. IMO they do not deserve booing or cheering. If they say “tough sh**” as you suggest, it just shows they are too ignorant to have evolved. Plus, it wouldn’t go over too well in the clubhouse. This isn’t the 1950s.
