The Oakland Raiders released receiver Martavis Bryant as part of their cutdown to 53 players, less than four months after sending a third-round pick in the 2018 draft to the Steelers to acquire the once up-and-coming star.
Bryant, per NFL.com, is facing another suspension for violation of the league's substance abuse policy, something that was reported before the team went to training camp.
A suspension would be the third for Bryant, a fourth-round pick of the Steelers in 2014. He missed the first four games of the 2015 season, then the entire 2016 season for violation of the league's substance abuse program.
That didn't stop the Raiders from offering the 79th pick in this year's draft for Bryant, who has averaged 15.2 yards on his 126 career catches and scored 17 touchdowns in just 36 career games. The Steelers used that pick to trade up in the third round and select quarterback Mason Rudolph.
Bryant consistently drew the ire of new Oakland coach Jon Gruden for not picking up the playbook quickly and missing time because of illnesses. Bryant reportedly suffered from migraine headaches.
The Steelers selected receiver James Washington in the second round this year to help replace Bryant's production.
