Ben Roethlisberger has thrown the ball just once since injuring his right elbow in overtime of the Steelers' 21-21 tie last Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, that coming on the team's final offensive play of the game.

Roethlisberger will probably lightly test the elbow today, but it will largely be a day off as the Steelers begin preparations for their home opener Sunday at Heinz Field against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I just got hit, it's a bruise," Roethlisberger said Wednesday morning.

Roethlisberger was injured when he was sacked from behind by Cleveland rookie linebacker Genard Avery with 48 seconds remaining in the game. He fumbled on the play and the Browns recovered.

That set up a potential game-winning field goal attempt for the Browns' Zach Gonzalez that was blocked by T.J. Watt. The play helped Watt, who also had 11 tackles and four sacks (changed to three) in the game, to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Roethlisberger came back into the game after that and threw an incompletion to Justin Hunter on the game's final play.

He said there is no way he will miss the game against the Chiefs.

"I hope not," he said. "I don't plan on it. Maybe just today, but that's a typical vet Wednesday (day off)."
