CRANBERRY, Pa. -- The New Jersey Devils have claimed center Jean-Sebastien Dea off of waivers.
Dea, 24, was in the Penguins' organization for quite some time. Dea was initially signed to an entry-level deal after attending development camp and training camp in 2013, and turned pro with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Dea played 262 games over four full seasons for Wilkes-Barre, amassing 66 goals and 75 assists. He ranks 10th all-time in games played for Wilkes-Barre, seventh in goals, 15th in assists, and eighth in points.
In New Jersey, Dea will be reunited with Ray Shero and former Wilkes-Barre coaches John Hynes and Alain Nasreddine.
The Devils must keep Dea in the NHL for the duration of the season. If the Devils wish to send Dea down to their own AHL affiliate, he would have to pass through waivers again, and the Penguins would be allowed to reclaim Dea and assign him directly to Wilkes-Barre, if they are successful in making a claim.
Defenseman Zach Trotman was also placed on waivers yesterday, and he cleared.
