NHL suspends Capitals’ Wilson 20 games taken in Cranberry, Pa. (Penguins)

CRANBERRY, Pa. --  Tom Wilson was suspended for 20 games for his latest headshot on the Blues' Oskar Sundqvist, it was announced Wednesday.

Wilson will be eligible to return on Nov. 21 for the Capitals' home game against the Blackhawks. He will miss two games against the Penguins in that span -- the Penguins' home opener on Oct. 4, and a game in Washington on Nov. 7.

If the amount of games missed doesn't catch Wilson's attention, perhaps the lost salary will. Wilson will forfeit a total of $1,260,162.44 in his time out of the Capitals' lineup. The forfeited salary will go to the NHL's Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Department of Player Safety called the head contact avoidable, and noted Sundqvist's injury and Wilson's history as factors in determining the length of Wilson's suspension.

Including preseason and postseason games, this is Wilson's fourth suspension in only 105 games -- an unprecedented frequency of suspensions in the history of the Department of Player Safety.
