Penguins aim for retro feel with third jerseys taken in Cranberry, Pa. (Penguins)

CRANBERRY, Pa. -- At long last, the Penguins have unveiled the alternate jerseys that they will wear for a dozen games this season.

The new sweaters, based in Pittsburgh gold with black sleeves and white and gold striping, harken back to the team's 1980s uniforms and to the ones they wore in the 2017 Stadium Series game at Heinz Field.

The consensus in the Penguins' dressing room, where one was displayed with a gold helmet, was overwhelmingly positive.

"They're nice," Derick Brassard was saying. "They represent our team and the color, the yellow is pretty much the same as the Steelers and Pirates. It'll be special to wear it."

"I think they're awesome," said Bryan Rust. "It's fun to kind of change it up and those are pretty nice."

The Penguins will wear them for the first time Nov. 15, when they host the Lightning at PPG Paints Arena.

The following day through Nov. 19, the jersey will go on sale to the public exclusively at PensGear Stores at the arena and SouthSide Works. After that they will be available at area Dick's Sporting Goods stores,  and online at NHL.com and adidas.com.

The Penguins will wear the jerseys for the following games:

Nov. 24 vs. Blue Jackets

Dec. 14 vs. Bruins

Dec. 27 vs. Red Wings
