Last week, Artie Burns was benched against the Browns when he was late to the team walkthrough the day before the game.
This week, Burns would just be happy to be able to practice in the walkthrough.
Burns suffered what appeared to be a left ankle/foot injury midway through Friday's practice as the Steelers (4-2-1) prepared to travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens (4-4). Burns left practice before it was completed.
Thats puts his status to play against the Ravens in doubt.
"It sucks," nickel corner Mike Hilton told me. "Hopefully, he's out there Sunday. If not, it will be next man up and the next man up will have to be ready."
The next man in this case would be Coty Sensabaugh, who had already been sharing time with Burns at the corner spot opposite Joe Haden. Sensabaugh has been dealing with a toe injury this week suffered in the 33-18 win last Sunday over the Browns.
He practiced on a limited basis Thursday but was back to being a full-time participant Friday.
"I hope so," Sensabaugh said when asked if he showed the coaching staff he's ready to play. "I'm going to keep on mentally preparing and we'll see what Sunday brings."
If both Burns and Sensabaugh can't play or are limited, second-year corner Cameron Sutton would likely be the next man in line for the Steelers.
In other news, Matt Feiler confirmed he took all of the first-team snaps with the offense at right tackle in place of Marcus Gilbert. It appears Feiler will make his second consecutive start and third of the season in place of Gilbert, who is dealing with a knee injury.
It's particularly important to be healthy in the secondary against this Ravens club. Quarterback Joe Flacco is tied with Andrew Luck of Indianapolis for the most passing attempts per game at 42.8 per contest. Flacco also threw for a season-high 363 yards when the Ravens defeated the Steelers 26-14 at Heinz Field on Sept. 30.
On the plus side, the Steelers didn't have Hilton the last time they played. He missed the game with an elbow injury.
"I'm excited," Hilton told me. "It sucked to miss this game the last time. It's one of the better rivalries in the league. I want to be a part of it. I'm ready to go."
