Steelers add Adeniyi to roster, release Thomas taken at Rooney Complex (Steelers)

Ola Adeniyi. - MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

With Bud Dupree nursing a torn pectoral muscle, the Steelers were short on outside linebackers for their game Sunday against the Chargers. They alleviated that issue Saturday by activating linebacker Ola Adeniyi from injured reserve. Inside linebacker Matthew Thomas was released to make room for Adeniyi on the 53-man roster.

Adeniyi, a rookie from Toledo, suffered a hamstring injury during the preseason and was placed on injured reserve.

Thomas, a rookie from Florida State, was the unfortunate player to be released to make room on the roster because of numbers issues at other positions. The Steelers will likely make some kind of roster move with Thomas Monday, either bringing him back to their 53-man roster or adding him to their practice squad.

Both Morgan Burnett (out) and Cam Sutton (questionable) might not be available to play against the Chargers, leaving the Steelers short in the secondary, otherwise it might have been safety Marcus Allen who might have been released.
