Simon exits with apparent lower-body injury taken at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins)

Dominik Simon left in the final five minutes of the first period of Penguins' 6-3 win over the Avalanche on Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena with what appeared to be a lower-body injury.

Simon fell awkwardly after colliding with Gabriel Landeskog and was slow to get up. It appears that it was his left leg that went out from under him, and he skated with a slight limp afterward.

He stayed on the ice for a few seconds after getting up, and then skated off raising his hand at the bench:

It was his first shift after being released from the penalty box after his hooking penalty 12:47 into the first period.

Mike Sullivan did not yet have an update on Simon's status after the game, though he did praise the work of Sidney Crosby's line after Simon's departure, in particular that of his replacement, Riley Sheahan. Bryan Rust also had some time on the line. Only Jake Guentzel stayed put. But it was all Sheahan from the start of the third period.

"I thought Riley did a good job," Sullivan said. "I thought the guys did a good job. For most of the night, Sid's line had to play against Nathan MacKinnon's line, and that line is tough to handle. You have to give those three guys credit. They're real good players, and I thought Sid's line did a good job against them."
