It's been one year since Ryan Shazier was injured making a tackle in a game at Cincinnati.
And since that time, Shazier has made incredible progress from the spinal injury he suffered in that game. He's been a constant presence at the Steelers' facility and been an inspiration for his teammates and the coaching staff.
Tuesday, Mike Tomlin was asked to reflect on Shazier's progress on the one-year anniversary of that injury.
"You know," Tomlin said, clearly getting emotional as he spoke, "Ryan is a special guy. I don't know if I can give what we witnessed just due talking about it. To be around him every day, to witness it, is a special thing. He's a special guy. He inspires us. He continues to inspire us. I just appreciate that he allows us to be as close as we are to his journey. His journey is ongoing. We're going to continue to support him and learn from him."
Shazier, meanwhile, posted this on his social media:
