Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the game that left Steelers inside linebacker Ryan Shazier with a spinal injury that left him with a long recovery process marked by a number of milestones.
First came standing, then walking. He has since begun a slow jog and Thursday revealed he is lifting heavy weights again:
Earlier this week, Mike Tomlin got choked up with emotion while describing not only his feelings but the feelings of his team while witnessing Shazier's recovery.
"Ryan is a special guy," Tomlin said. "I don’t know if I can give what we witnessed just due by talking about it. I think to be around him every day, to witness it, is a special thing. He’s a special guy. He inspires us, he continues to inspire us, and I just appreciate that he allows us to be as close as we are to his journey. His journey is on-going, so we’re going to continue to support him and continue to learn from him."
