The NFL released the 2019 Draft order, and the Steelers own their highest pick in years.
The team will pick 20th, the highest position since 2014, when they selected Ryan Shazier 15th overall.
Following the Shazier pick, the Steelers' recent first-round draft selections are as follows:
- 2015 - Bud Dupree (pick No. 22)
- 2016 - Artie Burns (pick No. 25)
- 2017 - T.J. Watt (pick No. 30)
- 2018 - Terrell Edmunds (pick No. 28)
Following a disappointing 9-6-1 2018 campaign in which the team missed the playoffs, the silver lining here is the Steelers have a chance to draft an impact player at 20th overall and beyond. It certainly worked in 2014 when they held the No. 15 pick.
In addition to Shazier, the Steelers doubled down with the quality picks in Round 2 by selecting defensive end Stephon Tuitt at No. 46. In 2018, the Steelers could potentially load up with immediate-impact players in a similar fashion.
