The Broncos handed the Steelers one of their toughest losses in a season that saw them miss the playoffs by a half game.
Now, they might be raiding their coaching staff. Per the NFL Network, the Broncos have asked the Steelers for permission to interview offensive line coach Mike Munchak for their vacant head coaching position.
The Broncos fired Vance Joseph after two seasons and an 11-21 record, including 6-10 in 2018. One of those wins was a 24-17 victory over the Steelers Nov. 25 in Denver, a game in which the Steelers outgained the Broncos 452-308.
A Pro Bowl guard in his playing career, Munchak, 58, came to the Steelers in 2014 after being fired as head coach of the Tennessee Titans, the organization for which he played and coached from 1982 through 2013. He was 22-26 in three seasons as head coach of the Titans.
But he's presided over an offensive line considered one of the best in the NFL with the Steelers, developing a number of players who have not only become good players for the Steelers, but elsewhere, as well.
"I can't say enough about him. He's one of those figures in your life that you'll always remember. He's what makes the room fun," All-Pro guard David DeCastro said. "To come to work every day with a guy like that, in a room like that. It's been a blast. I hope he does what's best for him."
