It isn’t the big offseason acquisition Pirates fans have been hoping for, but the club has added a big pitcher.

Right-hander Aaron Slegers, who is 6-foot-10, was claimed off waivers from the Twins on Friday. He has made five starts and three relief appearances over the last two seasons in the major leagues, going 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

In the 2018 season, the 26-year-old was 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA in four games, including two starts, with the Twins. He also went 5-7 with a 3.80 ERA and 1.21 WHIP for Triple-A Rochester.

Slegers was the Twins' minor league pitcher of the year in 2017 when he had a 15-4 record, 3.40 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 24 starts at Rochester.

He was Minnesota’s fifth-round draft pick in 2013 from the University of Indiana.

Right-hander Dario Agrazal was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old pitched with Double-A Altoona and high Class A Bradenton last year and had a combined 5-6 record, 3.99 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 15 games, including 14 starts.
