The Pirates won’t be part of any arbitration hearings this year.
They came to terms on one-year contracts with outfielder Corey Dickerson and reliever Keone Kela on Friday, the day teams and players were set to swap arbitration figures.
Dickerson will make $8.5 million in 2019. Kela’s salary will be $3.175 million.
Dickerson had a fine first season with the Pirates last year after being acquired from the Rays in a trade during spring training. He was the National League Gold Glove-winning left fielder while hitting .300/.330 /.474 with 13 home runs in 135 games. Dickerson had a salary of $5.95 million.
The 29-year-old is eligible for free agency at the end of the upcoming season.
Kela was acquired from the Rangers in a trade last July and had a 2.93 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 16 games for the Pirates while striking out 22 in 15 1/3 innings. He was shut-down for the season in early September due to arm fatigue.
The 25-year-old converted 24 of 25 save opportunities with Texas before being dealt while making $1.2 million.
The Pirates have two more years of contractual control with Kela.
