The Steelers found their new running backs coach.
North Carolina State assistant coach Eddie Faulkner has been hired for the position after the Steelers passed on renewing James Saxon's contract last Monday.
The news was first reported by the NFL Network.
Since 2013, Faulkner, a former running back at the University of Wisconsin, coached tight ends and fullbacks at NC State while also serving as the special teams coordinator. In that capacity, Faulkner worked directly with current Steelers running back Jaylen Samuels, who played tight end, fullback and running back at NC State from 2014 to 2017.
The hire marks Faulkner's first job at the NFL level, but he does have experience working exclusively with running backs: From 2005 - 2010, he served as the running backs coach at Ball State.
Faulkner takes over a Steelers backfield that averaged 90.3 rushing yards per game, 31st in the NFL.
