The Steelers on Tuesday hired former Patriots offensive lineman Adrian Klemm to fill the role of assistant offensive line coach on their staff.
Klemm fills the spot left on the staff when offensive line coach Mike Munchak left for Denver and assistant Shaun Sarrett was elevated to replace him.
Klemm’s most recent job was at UCLA, where he served as the team's associate head coach/run game coordinator/offensive line coach from 2012-16. He was suspended for a portion of the 2015 season by the NCAA for arranging training services and housing for two recruits worth $2,400 that he paid for outside of NCAA rules.
Klemm began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at SMU in 2008, before becoming the offensive line coach/recruiting coordinator there from 2009-11.
Klemm played six seasons in the NFL. He was drafted by the Patriots in the second round in 2000. He spent five seasons with the Patriots, helping them win three Super Bowls. He finished his playing career in 2005 with the Packers.
Klemm's hiring is the third of an outside coach by the Steelers this offseason. Last month, they hired former Bengals and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin as a defensive assistant who will help with the secondary. Also, former North Carolina State assistant Eddie Faulkner was hired to coach the running backs after James Saxon was not retained.
Defensive coordinator Keith Butler is expected to work with the outside linebackers after Joey Porter was fired at the end of the season.
