Former Pirates pitcher Joe Gibbon dies at 83

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Joe Gibbon, who pitched for the Pirates’ 1960 World Series-winning team, died Wednesday at 83 of natural causes, the team announced.

The left-hander made his major-league debut with the Pirates in 1960 and pitched with them through 1965. He returned to Pittsburgh from 1969-70.

In 13 major-league seasons, Gibbon had a 61-65 record and 3.52 ERA over 419 games, including 127 starts. He also played for the Giants (1966-69), Reds (1971-72) and Astros (1972).
