Last year, the Steelers were secretive about who would announce their first-round draft pick, as Ryan Shazier made an emotional and surprise walk across the stage to greet new teammate Terrell Edmunds.
This year, the Steelers' first-round pick will get an immediate indoctrination into the team's history.
Joe Greene will announce the team's first-round pick this year in Nashville, Tenn., marking the 50-year anniversary of the Steelers selecting him in the first round of the 1969 draft and changing the team's fortunes.
“It is special,” said the first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame member and cornerstone to the team's four Super Bowl wins in the 1970s.
“Since my draft day, more than 50 years ago, to be here and to announce the Pittsburgh Steelers’ No. 1 draft choice is very humbling. Very humbling.”
Greene won't be the only former Steelers player in Nashville to announce picks. The team earlier said it will have Brett Keisel and Santonio Holmes at the draft to announce its second- and third-round selections.
The Steelers have the 20th pick in the first round of the draft, which begins Thursday.
