Watt opens camp on PUP List taken in Latrobe, Pa. (Steelers)

T.J. Watt arrives at Saint Vincent College -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Steelers will open their training camp practices Friday here at Saint Vincent College in pretty good health.

The one exception?

Mike Tomlin revealed Thursday afternoon that star outside linebacker T.J. Watt was experiencing some hamstring tightness after completing the team's run test and will begin camp on the PUP List.

"T.J. Watt did experience some tightness in his left hamstring at the completion of the last rep," Tomlin said. "So we could PUP him and say that he's not available at the initial offset tomorrow morning. He may be on for a very short time.

"He was able to complete the test. He just experienced some tightness there at the end. We'll do what's appropriate."

This is the second time in as many seasons Watt has experienced some hamstring issues early in training camp. He missed time in 2018's camp because of hamstring issues but appeared in all 16 games and led the team with 13 sacks, earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Watt was the only player to come out of the team's conditioning test with any issues, Tomlin revealed Thursday. In fact, Tomlin said he was quite pleased with the general conditioning of his team.

"I liked the condition of the men as they reported," said Tomlin, who earlier in the day signed a one-year contract extension through the 2021 season. "The weights were impressive as you went through it man for man, positionally. I liked that. I think that was reinforced in the run test."
