RICHMOND, Va. -- It’s like clockwork every August: After being off the radar for a few months, Sidney Crosby’s birthday comes around to remind me that hockey is just around the corner. Crosby is famous for being almost comically superstitious, and we as a city and fan base should be SO thankful for that fact.
Not only is his uniform number, 87, a reference to his birthdate, but his salary is as well, at $8.7 million a year … you could argue that he’s worth twice that!
Finally, if you haven’t yet, please do yourself a favor and dial up this Crosby interview on the episode of "Spittin’ Chiclets," which Taylor Haase linked to Wednesday. Sid so often comes across as robotic, almost boring, when he isn’t on the ice … to hear him loosen up a bit, and reminisce about his life and career with former teammates Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney, is a joy to hear and will make you love him all the more.
Happy belated birthday, Cap!
