THE SETUP

Happy Winnipeg Day! Also known as Guaranteed Win Day around these parts!

No, seriously, the Penguins have won a ridiculous 18 in a row against the Jets/Thrashers here -- 0-14-4 -- going all the way back to a 4-2 victory for Atlanta on Dec. 26, 2006, at the Civic Arena. And in that same span, the Penguins have gone 30-5-1 against that franchise regardless of where the game was played. What's more, a bunch of those scores were super-lopsided, too, especially when Ondrej Pavelec was the opposition goaltender. Dude used to get spooked just by going through the tunnel, I'd presume.

Anyway, I'll lead the coverage today, beginning with the morning skates: Penguins at 10:30 a.m., Jets at 11:30. Faceoff is 7:08 p.m., and I'll be joined by Dave Molinari, Taylor Haase and Matt Sunday.

Hollidaysburg's Sam Lafferty is set to make his NHL debut tonight. Taylor spoke one-on-one with him after he got the call. You can read that story here.
