Sorry, but had to get that out of the way. I'm ready now.
The funny thing, though, is that one of my better photos from Pitt's 63-61win over Florida State ... well, it doesn't remind me much of basketball. It's right up top there, leading off the gallery from the Panthers' win.
That photo is of Trey McGowens elevating himself, getting combative and being just dang determined to bring the ball down. More than basketball, it reminded me of JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was in attendance to see the win. As was Ryan Shazier, but I was too involved with sending out a photo to capture the moment they embraced at halftime. Sorry, Steelers fans.
Remember these, though? Steelers were in Jacksonville last season and it wasn't the prettiest of games. The man they call JuJu made this pair of crucial combat catches.
Wait, wait. JuJu was great there, but not quite what I'm looking for ... same idea, though:
THAT is what McGowens reminded me of going up to get that ball. Like his coach, Jeff Capel, said after the game, "He was determined to get it."
Listen, normally, you don't go talking about individual rebounds and the determination to go get them, except when they take place in clutch moments and help alter the scoring rhythms to swing the final score two points in the rebounding player's favor.
