What’s Brewing 1.21

Liberty Bell, Philadelphia. - DEJAN KOVACEVIC / DKPS

PHILADELPHIA -- Good morning!

From the wrong end of the commonwealth!

Dave Molinari and I are both out here to double-team Penguins-Flyers tonight and, while that might seem unusual for a January game, there's a reason for it: None of these guys will be accessible for the nine days that follow, thanks to the NHL's All-Star break running right into the team's designated by week. The next time they'll resurface will be Jan. 30.

So, in lieu of access, we'll double up this morning skate and this game and get everything we can to make sure there's enough material to meet your hockey needs in the days ahead.

Oh, also, Taylor Haase is flying to St. Louis to cover the NHL All-Star Game this weekend, so there's that, too.

• I've got Grind, and it's very Tuesday Takes-y. All sports.

• The Penguins will face the Flyers today, 7:38 p.m., here at Wells Fargo Center. Dave and I are here. Access begins at 11:15 a.m. Also, Taylor's got a new Wilkes-Barre Watch up. All our hockey coverage can be found on our team page.

• The Steelers are dormant, but Dale Lolley never rests. All our football coverage can be found on our Steelers page.

• The Pirates keep making a bit of news each day. Alex Stumpf is on it. All our baseball coverage can be found on our team page.

• Pitt's next game is tomorrow, 9:01 p.m., against Boston College at Petersen Events Center. Hunter Homistek will be there. All our basketball coverage can be found on our team page.

Hunter and I have an all-hoops Java this morning:

• As of 11:59 p.m. Monday, 11-plus weeks since the announcement that coverage of the Panthers is back, we've sold 928 H2P Subscriptions toward our goal of 1,000, including none yesterday. Two weeks ago, Bill Kaper, a subscriber in Columbus, Ohio, pledging to match -- one for one -- each of the final 160 subscriptions we sell.

• We've finished with the Lunatic Level, and thus, we've finished with the Brick. If you bought one between Dec. 1-31, then here's how to get the other: Send us your mailing address to, using the email to which your subscription is attached. When the end of January comes, we'll stop mailing Bricks forever. The only way we'll give them out after that will be in person at meetups. Thanks again to everyone who signed up!

• Our company has unprecedented reach. If you have a business that could benefit from this, as our many longstanding partners have, our media kit has all the info you'd want. Email my wife at to set up a meeting.
