Welcome to the weekend podcast for DK Sports Radio: Memory Lane. Each weekend I will be sitting down with former Pittsburgh athletes and reflecting on the time they spent in the Steel City.
These shows will be a bit different than the rest of our audio content. Unlike the daily sports team podcast's, morning java or daily shot, Memory Lane will be an evergreen podcast, meaning it is not time sensitive.
The episodes will be extra long so you lunatics will have something to listen to over the weekend. Heading on a road trip out of town or busy with an afternoon full of house chores? This is the podcast for you.
For this week's show, I sat down and chatted with former Steelers safety Will Allen.
Will spent six of his 12 year NFL career in Pittsburgh, originally joining the black and gold in 2010, just before the start of their AFC Championship run. In this episode, Will reflects on his relationship with Mike Tomlin, who served as his defensive backs coach when he first came into the NFL with the Buccaneers.
We also dove into his days at Ohio State, where he was an All-American and National champion. Hear about his memories of the 2002 championship victory over the heavily favored Miami Hurricanes, the backlash he received from his tackle on Willis McGahee and his thoughts on how Jim Tressel's coaching career came to an end.
Finally, in addition to the success he has had on the field, Will has made quite the name for himself since his playing days came to an end. We discuss his numerous business ventures, including an investment in Players TV and the Will Allen Foundation. He also explains why he chose to stay in Pittsburgh after he retired from football.
