The Penguins filled a spot on Mike Sullivan's staff when Mike Vellucci was named an assistant coach last week.

In the process, they opened two positions at their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, where Vellucci was the coach and general manager last season.

His old positions apparently won't remain empty for long, however.

"We'll make an announcement in the next few days on all of that," Jim Rutherford said Tuesday.

He didn't identify anyone being considered to be the coach, but listed the qualities -- none of them surprising -- needed to be a serious candidate.

"Good hockey guy, good teacher," Rutherford said. "A guy who understands the game and can communicate and have the respect of the players."

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton assistant coaches J.D. Forrest and Jarrod Skalde are believed to be among the candidates to assume Vellucci's coaching duties.
