The 2020 NHL Draft has been rescheduled for Oct. 6 and 7, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Tuesday.
The draft was originally scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10. Free agency is scheduled to open on Oct. 9, so by rescheduling the draft the two events will no longer occur on the same day.
The Penguins are currently only scheduled to be making picks on Day 2 of the draft, with one pick in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds. The first-round pick was sent to Toronto in the Kasperi Kapanen trade, and the second-round pick was the one sent to the Golden Knights ahead of the 2017 expansion draft to ensure that Vegas selected Marc-Andre Fleury. The seventh-round pick went to the Sharks last summer in exchange for the Sharks' 2019 seventh-round pick, which the Penguins used to select Finnish defenseman Santeri Airola.
The Rangers won the No. 1 pick in the second phase of the draft lottery on Aug. 10, earning the right to select Alexis Lafreniere.
