ALTOONA, Pa. -- It’s Sunday and that means the rankings for college football have been released and Penn State has found its way to No. 8 in the Coaches Poll and No. 9 in the AP Top 25.
The Nittany Lions haven't played a game, of course, yet remain in the top-10 in both polls thanks to losses by Auburn and Texas who were ranked higher last week.
Ohio State still remains the highest ranked Big Ten team at No. 6 in both the Coaches and AP poll. Wisconsin at No. 14 and No. 16 and Michigan at No. 19 and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll and AP respectively joined Penn State and the Buckeyes in the top-25 from the Big Ten. Minnesota also joins the aforementioned Big Ten teams coming in at No. 25 in the AP Poll.
There are now six teams who have yet to play a game in the AP Top-25 and five in the Coaches Poll.
The top-10 should be heavily impacted next week with match-ups between No. 1 Clemson and No. 7 Miami as well as No. 2 Alabama and Ole Miss. The Rebels host the Crimson Tide as Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin faces his former boss in Alabama head coach Nick Saban who he worked and ran the offense for from 2014-2016.
It won’t be until the weekend of Oct. 24 that the Nittany Lions and Big Ten will get games underway.
