Pitt's 30-29 loss to North Carolina State Saturday at Heinz Field signaled the inevitable reality that the Panthers would drop from the Associated Press' Top 25 Poll after being No. 24 last week.
The inevitable happened Sunday when the AP Top 25 Poll was released:

Pitt's loss dropped it from the AP's rankings after being ranked No. 21 two weeks ago and No. 24 last week. The loss to N.C. State brought Pitt's record to 3-1 on the season, 2-1 in ACC play, as the team prepares for its first road game of the season against Boston College at Alumni Stadium this Saturday at 4 p.m. Pitt received seven total votes. In addition to the 25 ranked teams, 18 other teams received more votes than the Panthers.
Five ACC teams were ranked on Saturday, all of which are scheduled as opponents for the Panthers this season:
• No. 1 Clemson;
• No. 5 Notre Dame;
• No. 7 Miami;
• No. 8 North Carolina;
• and No. 19 Virginia Tech.
The Panthers weren't alone in being a ranked team that lost to an unranked team on Saturday:
• No. 9 Texas lost to unranked TCU 33-31;
• No. 11 UCF lost to unranked Tulsa 34-26;
• No. 16 Mississippi State lost to unranked Arkansas 21-14;
• and No. 18 Oklahoma lost to unranked Iowa State 37-30.
Texas' loss dropped them to No. 22, while all the other upset opponents are now unranked.
