Bettman: NHL sets Jan. 1 'target' to start next season

The NHL has a target start date for the start of the 2020-21 regular season, Gary Bettman announced on Tuesday prior to the start of the NHL draft.

The NHL is aiming for a Jan. 1 start date, not the Dec. 1 target date that was previously announced.

The NHL said in a release that the estimated timing for the start of training camp will be communicated at a later date.
