The Penguins added three straight forwards with their picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds of Wednesday's NHL Draft.

In the sixth round, they added center Chase Yoder at pick No. 170 overall.

Yoder, 18, is a product of the U.S. National Team Development Program and will be a freshman at Providence College next season. The Texas native is 5-11, 174 pounds.

Penguins amateur scouting director called Yoder a "character player," and compared him to Teddy Blueger.

"The way Teddy is playing now for Pittsburgh, like a hard-working, two-way, energy player," Allvin said. "More of a fourth-line, potential upside. Really strong leader, strong character. We're excited about the players we got today."

SCOUTS SAY

NHL Central Scouting ranked Yoder the 92nd best North American skater in this draft. McKeen's Hockey projected Yoder to be drafted at No. 142 overall.

Tony Granato: "Chase Yoder is one of those players that every team needs. He's a solid two-way player. He knows his role, he knows what he has to do to try to help his team win games. He's a very effective penalty killer, one of those guys who probably is an NHL player, he'll be a depth guy. Brandon Tanev (another Providence College product) is a guy that I think about often when I watch him play. ... Here's a player that plays 200 feet, I think going to Providence is a great fit for him. He's a player I think who will continue to get better offensively, he's not going to be a big big numbers guy but he's going to be able to produce in big situations."
