Mike Hilton will have to wait at least one more week before he returns from a shoulder injury suffered a month ago in a win over the Browns.
But that just might be because the Steelers don't want to rush their nickel cornerback back into the lineup.
They might not need him.
Dallas star running back Ezekiel Elliott might not be available for the Cowboys (2-6) when they host the Steelers (7-0) Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Elliott was limited in practice for a third consecutive day and will be a true game-time decision.
That is significant, as the Cowboys are leaning toward starting Garrett Gilbert at quarterback against the Steelers. The Cowboys are Gilbert's seventh NFL team, though he has thrown just six passes in the league, completing two for 40 yards. Gilbert replaces rookie Ben DiNucci, who started the Cowboys' loss last week at Philadelphia.
If Elliott is unable to play, the Cowboys would turn to Tony Pollard at running back against the Steelers.
In addition to Hilton, offensive lineman Stephon Wisniewski (abdomen) also is doubtful to play for the Steelers. Wisniewski was activated from injured reserve earlier this week.
Tight end Vance McDonald also missed practice on Friday with an illness. That puts his status in jeopardy, as players who are sent home with an illness must pass three consecutive days of COVID-19 testing. McDonald is listed as questionable, though he likely will not play.
Nose tackle Tyson Alualu (knee) is out for the Steelers. Backup nose tackle Isaiah Buggs, who was limited the past two days at practice, was a full participant on Friday and is not listed on the injury report.
Defensive lineman Cam Heyward also was a full participant at practice all week and is not listed on the injury report after suffering a quad injury last Sunday against the Ravens.
