RICHMOND, Va. -- It’s weird the stuff you remember.
This was the game where it finally happened for me as a kid, the game where I jumped headlong into being an NFL football freak. Having recently turned eight years old, I was finally old enough to understand most of football’s rules and follow the action. How could you not be a Steelers fan in those days? They had acrobatic receivers that made catch after amazing catch, their uniforms were the coolest, and they won the Super Bowl seemingly every single year!
The one thing I could NOT understand at that young age was the fact that Father Time is undefeated, and how close so many of these amazing Steelers players that I’d come to idolize were to the end of the line. For as much fun as that 1979 season was, the next decade would provide slim pickings indeed!
