RICHMOND, Va. -- It’s weird the stuff you remember.
I remembered this week that in a non-pandemic ravaged world, the NHL All-Star Game would have been played next Sunday in Sunrise, Fla. I doubt many current NHL fans would consider it a huge loss, as the event has seemed less and less essential with every passing year. At one time, there was a definite thrill in seeing unfamiliar players from unfamiliar teams once a year, but that’s simply no longer the case, now that every game is available everywhere.
One thing that’s always interesting about the game is the uniforms, and it’s not always because they’re any good. The designs that have been trotted out for this event over the years have run the gamut from classic to ghastly, but the ones worn at the Igloo in 1990 were among the best … nearly as impressive as Mario Lemieux’s performance itself!
