RICHMOND, Va. -- Man, it’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since we’ve seen the Steelers in a Super Bowl.
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t watched a minute of Super Bowl XLV since I watched it live. I’ve had literally no desire to do so. I even hate the final score. I mean ... 31- 25? What the hell kind of football score is 25? It makes my blood…well, simmer, anyway. When I think back about it, I remember being excited that the Steelers had the ball at the end with a chance to win, and that Rashard Mendenhall committed a terrible, game-changing fumble. That’s it.
Ah, but I come to praise Mendy, not bury him. In fact, after subjecting myself to the highlights to prepare for this strip, I realized he had a decent game, and may have been in the running for MVP if the Steelers had won. But in the end, though it was a sloppy game, with injuries, overthrown passes, missed opportunities all around, the Steelers’ three turnovers to the Packers’ zero were just too much to overcome.
Anyway, like I said…it’s been ten years since the last Super Bowl appearance. Two-thirds of the way to the length of time between that fourth ring against the Rams and that rotten loss to the Cowboys, which seemed like A LOT longer. You really gotta cherish these moments, because they don’t come around that often!
