It's two steps forward, one step back for the Penguins when it comes to getting healthy.
Kris Letang and Mike Matheson returned to the lineup in the Penguins' game against the Islanders on Saturday, but Jared McCann left the game in the first period of the Penguins' 4-3 loss to the Islanders.
Mike Sullivan said after the loss that McCann was still being evaluated for a lower-body injury.
McCann took six shifts in the first period, with his final shift lasting 21 seconds and ending with five minutes left in the period. This was the end of his last shift, and it's not clear what may have happened to him, but the Islanders broadcasters noted that he was "shaken up" skating to the bench:
Drew O'Connor took McCann's spot on the third line in his absence.
After this coming Tuesday's game against the Devils game was postponed, the Penguins don't have another game until Thursday when they return to New York to play the Islanders, giving them a few days to get healthy. If McCann is unable to play next game, Zach Aston-Reese figures to replace him in the lineup after practicing in full for some time now.
